How to Get Free Credit Reports
{{credit}}It's vitally important for consumers to review their credit report each year. Errors on your credit report may affect your ability to borrow money, buy a new home, purchase insurance and even get a new job. Luckily, Federal law passed in 2005 makes it easy for you to access your credit reports for free. You're entitled to one free credit report per year from each of the three credit reporting agencies.
But be aware: many companies don't want you to know how easy it is to get your credit report! Consumers are often taken in by advertisements offering "free credit reports". Despite the claim, your credit report often comes with strings attached. Usually, you're required to sign up for a credit monitoring service that is not free. If you request the free report and fail to call and opt-out before the 30-day free trial ends, you're stuck with the service until you cancel.
Many consumers feel tricked by these deceptive marketing practices and assume that no credit report is "free". But the truth is, you can really get a free credit report from each of the major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Simply visit AnnualCreditReport.com, call 1-877-322-8228, or complete the Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to:
Annual Credit Report Request Service
P.O. Box 105281

It's really that easy! And it's your right! Take advantage and make sure you order your free credit reports every year. Of course, if you need additional reports you'll have to pay. But instead of using a deceptive service that tries to trick you, visit the credit bureaus directly and purchase your credit reports from the source.{{/credit}}
