Money Saving Tips to Reduce Debt

How do you get out of debt? The first thing you should do is set up a budget. List all sources of income and all expenses. Hopefully the former will exceed the latter. Without a budget, it's like flying blind. Knowing what you have coming in and where it's going can help you better control your finances.

Things you can do to control you expenses:

Get rid of all but one credit card. You don't need store and gas cards, a Visa or Mastercard will do. They are accepted at virtually all retail establishments. This way, you only have one card to keep track of.

Contact your credit card issuer to get better terms. Chances are, if you have a history of on time payments, they may be willing to negotiate with you. Competition is fierce for new card holders and your credit card company may be willing to offer concessions just to keep you.

Wants and needs, which governs your life? Just because you want something doesn't mean you need it. If you can distinguish the difference between these two, you're ahead of most people. Basics, like food and shelter are needs. Clothing and transportation are needs. Things like a Ferrari, plasma TV, and a Gucci Handbag are wants. You can get by fine without these.

Impulse buying - When out shopping, limit the amount of money you carry with you and leave your credit card at home. This way you can't spend any more than you have on you at that given time. Furthermore, when you find something you think you absolutely have to have, take a step back, think it over for a day or two. You will often find you really didn't have to have it after all. {{/credit}}
